A 36-year-old woman set out to go on her early morning jog but was mauled by a bear near her driveway, Alaska troopers said.

She left her home at about 5:45 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 26 in Kenai, Alaska State Troopers said in a news release.

A bear attacked her when she was close to her driveway, troopers said.

“The bear came out of another property, it looks like it attacked her ... and dragged her approximately 100 yards down the road onto this guy’s property,” Trooper David Lorring told Alaska’s News Source.

Her neighbor woke up to noises, but he didn’t go out to investigate until it was light out about 30 minutes later, Lorring told the news outlet.

The neighbor found her, troopers said, and she was taken by helicopter to an Anchorage hospital with serious injuries.

Multiple agencies searched the area for the bear but did not find it. Troopers didn’t say what kind of bear it was.

”Patrols of the area will continue, and the public is advised to remain vigilant while outdoors,” troopers said in the release.
