Husband kills wife picking up her things from home amid separation, CA cops say
A woman was fatally shot by her estranged husband as she was picking up her things at a California home during their separation, police say.
Upland police responded to a home just before 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 22, for “an unknown trouble call,” the department said in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter.
When officers arrived, they found an injured husband and wife lying next to one another, police said.
Officers determined the husband had already died, according to police.
The wife, however, “was still fighting for her life,” police said, adding that she was taken to a trauma center and put on life support.
Police said they learned the couple was going through a separation, and the woman came to the home to collect some of her things.
The estranged husband shot her, then he died by suicide, police said.
The wife died from her injuries the day after the shooting, according to police.
“Our condolences to the family affected by this senseless tragedy,” police said.
Upland is about a 35-mile drive east from Los Angeles.
