Cracker Barrel, a popular restaurant chain that specializes in Southern comfort food, changed its logo this week, and not everyone is thrilled with the result.

The former logo — which featured an elderly man with his arm resting on a barrel — has been replaced with a simpler version, sans old man and barrel.

The company announced on Aug. 18 that it launched a new fall menu creative campaign, “All the More,” which would update the restaurant chain with a more modern look and feel.

“We believe in the goodness of country hospitality, a spirit that has always defined us. Our story hasn’t changed. Our values haven’t changed. With ‘All the More,’ we’re honoring our legacy while bringing fresh energy, thoughtful craftsmanship and heartfelt hospitality to our guests this fall,” Sarah Moore, chief marketing officer of Cracker Barrel, said in a statement.

The backlash in conservative spaces has been swift, with people taking begrudgingly to social media to express their dissatisfaction. This includes Hillsdale College, a conservative Christian school in Michigan, which shared the new restaurant logo next to a controversial photo on X, formerly Twitter.

The photo is a statue of President George Washington near the New Orleans Public Library in Louisiana with red paint splattered on it from the Black Lives Matter protests over the police killing of George Floyd in 2020.

“Same energy,” the post read.

Not everyone is standing with the school, and it quickly received some heated comments.

People throughout the social media metaverse have been either praising Cracker Barrel’s attempt to shift into more modern times or condemning it.

On Aug. 21, The Hill reported Cracker Barrel’s stock fell $94 million after the logo reveal, with its share value dropping 7.2%.
