Authorities said they cannot rule out foul play in the case of a missing 7-month-old baby in California.

On Aug. 14, deputies in Yucaipa were called to a store parking lot for reports of a kidnapping, according to an Aug. 16 news release from the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Office.

Rebecca Haro told deputies she was standing outside her vehicle changing her 7-month-old baby’s diaper when a man physically assaulted her, knocking her unconscious, the sheriff’s office said.

“I was going to get the diaper and somebody said, ‘Hola,’ and I don’t remember anything since,” she told KTLA.

She said when she woke up, her son, Emmanuel, was gone, deputies said.

“I got him out of the car seat, and I laid him down so I can get his diaper ready... all I remember, I saw white... I fell on the floor, and as soon as I got up, I couldn’t find my son. I checked all around my truck. And I ran into Big 5, and I asked the lady if she saw a baby or someone with a baby. She said no. He’s a happy boy,” Rebecca Haro told KABC.

Rebecca and her husband Jake Haro have publicly pleaded for the safe return of Emmanuel.

“Whoever took my son, please return him,” Jake Haro told KTLA. “We just want him back. We won’t do anything to you. Just give us our son. Keep him safe, don’t hurt him, make sure you feed him and change him.”

But now authorities are saying after interviewing the couple they found inconsistencies in their story.

“During those interviews, Rebecca was confronted with inconsistencies in her initial statement and declined to continue with the interview. At this point in the investigation, investigators are unable to rule out foul play in the disappearance of Emmanuel,” deputies said.
