A probation officer went to check on a registered sex offender, then made a grisly discovery in his bathroom, Minnesota police said.

An unresponsive woman was found in the bathtub of the man’s St. Paul apartment, according to police. The officer also noticed blood on him.

The 60-year-old man was taken into custody on Aug. 5 as officers performed life-saving measures on the woman, police said in an email.

McClatchy News is not naming the suspect because it’s unclear if he has been formally charged.

The woman was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive. Officials did not provide details on her injuries.

The man is a registered sex offender and was released from prison in 2023, according to records.

He is held in Ramsey County jail as police continue to investigate.
