A man accused of trying to kidnap a teenage girl during “a series of violent crimes” that terrorized a Colorado community is heading to prison, officials said.

Jeremiah Mullins, 32, was ordered to serve 25 years behind bars after pleading guilty to aggravated robbery, second-degree attempted kidnapping and second-degree motor vehicle theft, the district attorney’s office for Adams and Broomfield counties said in a July 31 news release.

McClatchy News couldn’t immediately find defense attorney information for Mullins on July 31.

Mullins is accused of approaching a teen girl in Westminster on Oct. 25, 2024, and demanding at gunpoint that she get in the stolen car he was driving, prosecutors said.

The girl “stalled by claiming she had money in her backpack,” according to prosecutors, who said that “as a bystander approached, Mullins grabbed the girl’s backpack and fled.”

After the teen flagged down a passing car for help, police investigated and arrested Mullins, who was also linked “to a string of armed robberies and carjackings committed earlier that same day,” prosecutors said.

According to prosecutors, he stole a man’s wallet and other items at gunpoint; demanded the keys to a woman’s car at gunpoint and drove her car into a field, where he abandoned it; and he got into another woman’s car, “held her at gunpoint, and forced her to drive a short distance before attempting — and failing — to steal her car.”

In the news release, District Attorney Brian Mason said, “this was an outrageous crime that terrorized a teenage girl as well as our entire community.”

Mason praised police and prosecutors who worked on the case, along with the teenage girl, saying her quick thinking and courage “saved her from further harm.”

Westminster is about a 10-mile drive north from downtown Denver.
