An Uber driver was shot multiple times during an attempted robbery by one of two passengers she picked up, Ohio police said.

Jaiden Palmer, 18, got in the vehicle in Akron on July 17 and grabbed the driver from behind, police said in a July 24 news release. He demanded the woman’s belongings and shot her six times, according to police.

The 39-year-old rideshare driver was struck in the arm and abdomen and was taken to the hospital in stable condition, police said.

The two passengers fled the area and remained at large until Palmer’s arrest on July 23, police said.

He was charged with aggravated robbery and felonious assault and is held in Summit County Jail, according to police.

Akron Police Lt. Michael Murphy told WKYC the second individual the Uber driver picked up “was not a part of the ride and not in the car at the time of the incident.”

McClatchy News reached out to Uber for comment but did not immediately receive a response.
