Worker discovers woman’s body on side of highway, IL cops say. Now, man arrested
A man accused of killing a grandmother has been arrested over a year after the woman’s body was found, Illinois State Police said.
Robert Lee, a 57-year-old from Springfield, was arrested and charged with three counts of first-degree murder and one count of concealment of homicidal death, troopers said in a July 23 news release.
In March 2024, an Illinois Department of Transportation worker discovered the body of 54-year-old Teresa Coleman along the side of a ramp off Interstate 55 in Springfield, state police and the Sangamon County Coroner’s Office said.
“Teresa was a woman of resilience and determination,” her obituary said. Loved ones said her ”greatest joys in life” included spending time with family and friends.
An autopsy determined her “suspicious” death was a homicide, according to officials.
Authorities did not say if Lee and Coleman knew each other prior to her death.
Lee is held in Sangamon County Jail, according to records.
