Day care worker follows parent, shoots at car after fight, Alabama police say
A day care worker is accused of following a parent and shooting at her car after a fight at the school, Alabama police said.
Officers responded to the shooting at about 9:30 a.m. July 21 at ABC Daycare and Kindergarten, Homewood police told WIAT.
According to police, the worker fired a gun at a parent’s car as she left the school with her child, WBMA reported.
An administrator at the day care told McClatchy News the fight began after the worker told a parent it was past the cut-off time to drop a child off.
“The parent got upset with the teacher and punched the teacher in her face,” said the administrator, who declined to give her name. “They really beat her bad.”
Other workers at the school stepped in and broke up the fight, police and the administrator said.
A bullet was found in the tire of the parent’s car, but no injuries were reported from the shooting, according to WBRC.
The worker, who was not named, was arrested and could face charges of attempted murder, multiple outlets reported.
It was not clear if the teacher still worked at the school.
“This is really, really just a lot,” the administrator told McClatchy News. “We’re like a family. We’re here for the kids, and we love the kids.”
Homewood is about a 5-mile drive south from Birmingham.
