Two water buffalo fatally attack man 1 day after he buys them, Oklahoma cops say
An Oklahoma man died after officials say he was attacked by two water buffalo he bought a day earlier.
On July 10, Bradley McMichael went to a livestock auction and purchased two water buffalo, according to a July 14 news release from the Jones Police Department.
The next day, McMichael was tending to the water buffalo when he became trapped in their enclosure, police said. Authorities believe that’s when they attacked him.
Police and fire crews arrived at the farm around 10:30 p.m. but couldn’t immediately get to McMichael because the animals were behaving aggressively, officials said.
One of the water buffaloes was “immediately dispatched to allow safe access to the scene,” police said.
When first responders found McMichael, police said he had ”multiple deep lacerations that proved to be fatal”.
While authorities were investigating, the second buffalo became “increasingly agitated and posed a threat” and was “dispatched,” according to police.
McMichael’s family told KFOR he loved his livestock and died doing what he loved.
“The cattle farming, that’s his thing. He’s been here his whole life, and he’s done that his whole life. So he’s an experienced cattle handler and a farmer,” McMichael’s ex-wife, Amy Smith, told the news outlet.
