US Marine shot and killed by romantic partner’s ex, Virginia officials say
A Virginia man has been convicted in the 2021 death of a U.S. Marine who was romantically involved with his ex-girlfriend, officials said.
Traivon Johnson, 29, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder, conspiracy to commit second-degree murder, use of firearm in the commission of a felony and conspiracy to commit use of firearm in commission of a felony in the slaying of Kalin Robinson, the Prince William County Office of the Commonwealth’s Attorney said in a July 7 news release.
“Resolution of this tragic case took many years, but through the continued cooperation of Prince William County Police detectives and the hard work of attorneys in this office, a strong case was built that has resulted in guilty pleas for very serious charges,” Prince William County Commonwealth’s Attorney Amy Ashworth said in the release.
Officers responded to a shooting at a bar and hookah lounge in Woodbridge on March 25, 2021, where they found Robinson had been shot in the “neck, abdomen, shoulder and legs,” according to officials.
Weeks before the shooting, “Johnson had threatened to shoot his ex-girlfriend” and Robinson, who was her new romantic partner, officials said.
An investigation found that Johnson and one other person planned to kill Robinson on that date, and cartridge casings found in his residence matched those found at the crime scene, according to officials.
Johnson is set to be sentenced in November.
Robinson, 25, was an infantry man in the United States Marine Corps, according to his obituary. He was remembered as “charming, protective and had an outgoing personality.”
Woodbridge is about a 25-mile drive southwest from Washington, D.C.
