A stranger attacked a woman until she fell unconscious, then raped her, California police say.

The woman was walking in Long Beach just after 2:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 1, when a man, later identified as Alvin Marbra, approached, the Long Beach Police Department said in a July 2 news release.

Marbra, 29, physically attacked the woman and when she lost consciousness, he “sexually assaulted her,” police said.

Using security camera footage, police said they identified Marbra as a suspect and arrested him that afternoon, about a mile from the reported attack.

Marbra was booked into jail on multiple charges, including “rape, assault with intent to rape, and assault with a deadly weapon,” according to police.

“This alarming criminal act is deeply concerning,” Chief of Police Wally Hebeish said in the release.

Marbra is being held on $100,000 bail, jail records show.

Police said they believe there may be additional victims and ask anyone with information to contact them at 562-570-7368.
