Breastfeeding mom smoked pot, gave her young children weed edibles, AR cops say
A mother accused of giving her young children marijuana has pleaded guilty and was sentenced, Arkansas officials said.
She was given 120 days in jail, with a 60-day credit for time served, and 60 months of probation after pleading guilty June 25 to endangering the welfare of a minor and introducing a controlled substance to the body of another person, according to Jonesboro District Court records.
McClatchy News is not naming the mother to protect the identity of her four children. Her attorney could not be reached for comment.
The mother, who had a valid medical marijuana card, gave her two children, ages 6 and 10, chocolate edibles and honey laced with marijuana and allowed them to smoke her cannabis, according to a probable cause affidavit filed Feb. 11.
The 6-year-old child tested positive for THC in their system, the affidavit said.
She was also breastfeeding a child under 1 year old while consuming cannabis, police said.
In addition to edibles, the mother allowed her young children to smoke marijuana and from a vape pen that contained THC, police said.
She also smoked marijuana around her 15-year-old child, the affidavit said.
The mother was first investigated by the Department of Human Services, then she was arrested Jan. 24, 2024, as she left an interview with investigators, the affidavit said.
Initially, she was charged with 12 counts of endangering the welfare of a minor and 12 counts of introduction of a controlled substance to the body of another person, but she pleaded to only one count of each of the charges, court records show.
Jonesboro is about a 130-mile drive northeast from Little Rock.
