A former care facility manager has been charged in the abuse of a dementia patient, Vermont officials said.

In April, Dexter Agasi, 55, was working as the house manager at Our House Too, a long-term care facility in Rutland, according to a June 23 news release by the Office of the Vermont Attorney General.

Agasi is accused of threatening a patient with advanced dementia, gripping their neck and refusing their cries for help, prosecutors said.

He was charged with abuse of a vulnerable adult, a charge that carries the potential of a maximum of two years in prison, a $2,000 fine or both, prosecutors said.

McClatchy News reached out to Our House Too on June 24 for a statement and was awaiting a response.

Agasi pleaded not guilty, prosecutors said. Attorney information for him was not immediately available.

Rutland is about a 70-mile drive southwest from Montpelier.
