Boyfriend assaults pregnant girlfriend, kills man who tried to help, TN cops say
A boyfriend accused of assaulting his pregnant girlfriend then shot and killed a man who showed up to intervene, Tennessee authorities said.
Tony Wray, 29, was arrested in connection with the June 10 killing of 26-year-old Charqwan Howse, according to the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department.
Wray’s pregnant girlfriend told police that she and Wray got into a fight that led to him physically assaulting her, so she called a family member for help, police wrote in a news release.
The family member and Howse went to Wray’s apartment to “intervene,” according to officers.
The two of them, along with a female witness, got into an argument with Wray on the front porch about him reportedly assaulting his girlfriend, police said.
Then Wray is accused of using a handgun to shoot Howse “without further provocation,” officers wrote.
First responders found Howse on the sidewalk shortly before midnight, and he died at the scene, officers said. They found Wray with a handgun at the scene and took him into custody, according to police.
Wray is charged with criminal homicide and three counts of aggravated assault, two involving his girlfriend, and one involving a female witness, police said.
