A California man will serve time in prison in connection with threatening to kill post office employees “one by one” on St.Thomas in the Virgin Islands, federal officials said.

Simon Peters, 42, of California, was sentenced June 6 to “eight months’ imprisonment followed by 30 months of supervised release,” according to a June 9 news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Virgin Islands.

McClatchy News reached out to Peters’ attorney June 11 for comment but did not immediately hear back.

Peters pleaded guilty Feb. 18 to one count of making threats against public officials, according to the attorney’s office.

On Jan. 27, 2024, Peters called the Ottley Post Office on St. Thomas and threatened to kill the carrier who services the Kirwan Terrace Housing Community for not delivering his package, according to a criminal complaint.

Officials said the package contained marijuana and was seized by U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers, court records show.

“Make sure the fat boy know we’re watching him and next time we’re going to kill him behind the building,” Peters is accused of saying, court records show.

“You let everyone in the post office know they got a set of man in the Virgin Islands getting ready to start killing all you all...for every box that go missing,” court records show.

In response to the threats, no mail carriers were sent to the Kirwan Terrace Housing Community for two days, temporarily disrupting mail delivery, authorities said.

On Jan. 29, 2024, Peters called the Ottley Post Office and asked to speak with the delivery driver, telling management, “we got people driving around looking for him, and you gon hear him get gun shots in his [expletive],” according to the complaint.

Authorities tracked the calls to Peters’ location in California, where he was arrested and later taken to the Virgin Islands for prosecution, records show.
