71-year-old woman attacked by family member during dispute, Illinois cops say

A man threatened to kill a 71-year-old relative as he attacked her in her home, Illinois deputies said.

Through a locked door in Big Rock Township, deputies observed the man punching and kicking the relative, authorities said.

The 18-year-old threatened to kill the woman, so authorities forced their way inside, according to a May 31 news release from the Kane County Sheriff’s Office.

McClatchy News is not naming the suspect to protect the identity of the victim.

Deputies separated the man and woman, and the man attacked authorities and was tased, authorities said. During the dispute, the man bit a deputy, officials said.

The woman was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, and the man was arrested, deputies said.

He was charged with attempted murder, two counts of aggravated domestic battery, three counts of aggravated battery, two counts of domestic battery, resisting a peace officer, and possession or consumption of alcohol by a minor, the sheriff’s office said.

He is scheduled to appear in court on June 5.

Big Rock Township is about a 50-mile drive west from downtown Chicago.
