An 8-year-old boy reached speeds of 85 mph as he took his younger brother on a joy ride in Arkansas, police say.

Harrison Police Chief Chris Graddy said during a May 22 city council meeting that a citizen reported a driver, who appeared to be a child, “was driving poorly,” according to the City of Harrison.

Deputies began a pursuit of the driver, and Harrison officers assisted by pinning the vehicle, Graddy said.

The driver, who reached a maximum speed of 85 mph, was determined to be an 8-year-old boy, whose 6-year-old brother was also in the car, according to police.

The boy had driven his brother from Pyatt to Harrison, a drive of nearly 20 miles, the police chief said.

“It could have ended completely differently. Marion County is following up with charges for the parents leaving them unsupervised,” Graddy said.
