Two men, 72 and 65, still missing after boat sinks off Alaska island, cops say

Two men remain missing after a 10-foot boat sank in rough ocean conditions off an Alaska island, state troopers reported.

A third man aboard the boat managed to swim safely to shore in the incident at about 9 p.m Monday, May 26, Alaska State Troopers said in a dispatch.

The boat sank off the coast of Mekoryuk on Nunivak Island, troopers said.

Samuel Shavings, 72, and Albert Williams, 65, remain missing, officials said.

Two local boats assisted the U.S. Coast Guard in an overnight search, troopers said. The Coast Guard sent an airplane and vessel to join the search on Tuesday, May 27.

Nunivak Island is about 560 miles west of Anchorage.
