Climber stuck 75 feet up on rocks — with no climbing gear, CO rescuers say
A climber with no climbing or other safety gear had to be rescued from where he was trapped on rocks in a Colorado park, officials said.
The climber was stuck about 75 feet up on the rocks in the Garden of the Gods park, the Colorado Springs Fire Department said in a May 26 post on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Rescuers spent about an hour setting up a rope system to lower the uninjured man to the ground, the department said in the post.
A photo shows a rescuer — wearing a climbing helmet and fastened into a belay system — on the rocks during the rescue. An image in the lower right-hand corner shows a spotlight shining on the rocks where the rescuers were or possibly where the climber was trapped.
Several people in the comments asked whether the climber would be fined for violating park rules of scrambling more than 10 feet up without proper equipment.
The department didn’t say whether the climber would face fines or other consequences.
