Man gets stuck for 10 hours after crawling into underground pipe, Ohio rescuers say
An Ohio man was rescued after officials said he crawled into an underground drain pipe and got stuck.
The Clinton Fire Department was called around 10 p.m. May 12 for reports of a 30-year-old man stuck in a drain pipe, according to a news release from the Clinton Firefighters Association.
The man crawled into the pipe around 6 p.m., the release said.
It’s unclear why the 5-foot, 11-inch-tall man crawled into the 24-inch and 18-inch pipe, WEWS reported. Multiple agencies were called to help get him out.
A robotic camera was used and found him about 450 feet inside the pipe from where he entered.
Rescue teams used a backhoe and dug 3 to 4 feet down to reach the pipe, then used sledgehammers to break open the pipe.
He was freed around 4 a.m., officials said.
The man was taken to a hospital and was listed in stable condition.
The village of Clinton is about a 40-mile drive south from Cleveland.
