Teacher met with 16-year-old 10 times for sex acts, Louisiana cops say
A high school teacher is accused of meeting with a 16-year-old student off-campus for sex acts at least 10 times, Louisiana deputies said.
Javonte Emmanuel Mims, 26, who formerly worked as a teacher and coach at Pleasant Hill High School for about three years, was arrested April 29 on more than 15 charges related to the incident, the Sabine Parish Sheriff’s Office said in a May 1 news release.
McClatchy News reached out to the superintendent of Sabine Parish Schools on May 2 but did not receive an immediate response.
Mims, who was also a youth pastor at a church in Natchitoches, sent the teen inappropriate messages and engaged in sex acts with her last year, deputies said.
Sabine Parish Sheriff’s Office Lt. D.W. Seegers told KTAL the teen’s mother reported the teacher to their office.
“She noticed the messages on her daughter’s cell phone is how this came about,” Seegers said, according to the outlet.
A bond for Mims has not been set, deputies said.
Pleasant Hill is about a 60-mile drive southeast from Shreveport.
