Sleeping 13-year-old killed when a bullet flies through wall, Oregon cops say
A shooting left a 13-year-old boy dead and another injured, Oregon officials said.
On April 27, Gresham officers got reports of a shooting inside an apartment and multiple rounds flying through the walls into another apartment, according to a news release by police.
A sleeping teenager in the nearby apartment was struck and transported to a local hospital, where he died, officials said.
Officers are not releasing the victim’s name as part of a request from his family, the release said.
Another individual was struck by gunfire and transported to the hospital for serious but not life-threatening injuries, officials said.
“The gunshots were consistent so I thought they were fireworks, but I heard tire noises so that’s when I knew it was a gun shooting,” Emily Wright, a community member, told FOX12. “And not until later I heard an ambulance, and then out the window I saw them right there.”
The investigation remains ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact lindsay.friderich@greshamoregon.gov.
Gresham is about a 20-mile drive east of Portland.
