A 27-year-old woman went to pick up her three cats from her ex-boyfriend’s house in Arizona and ended up shot in the chest, police said.

The incident was reported at about 12:15 a.m. Tuesday, April 22, the Bullhead City Police Department said in a Facebook post.

Andrew Allen Adams, 32, had invited her over to get her animals, police said.

She went to the home with her friend, and when she got out of the vehicle, Adams “fired a weapon in their direction,” police said.

The 33-year-old man she was with grabbed a rifle and got into a fight with Adams, police said.

Adams again “fired shots in their direction,” this time shooting the woman in the chest and wounding the man in the head, police said.

Police said they do not know why he shot at them.

The injured woman ran from the area and was later found on a road, police said.

Both were taken to a hospital in Las Vegas for serious injuries. As of April 23, the man and woman are in “critical but stable condition,” police said.

Her three cats are being held at an animal shelter, and they were not injured in the shooting, police said.

Adams was arrested on suspicion of second-degree attempted murder, aggravated assault and misconduct involving weapons from a prohibited possessor.

Bullhead City is about a 100-mile drive southeast from Las Vegas.
