A Virginia driver slammed into a deputy’s patrol car, then hit three other police vehicles while fleeing, authorities said.

The cross-border pursuit started at about 2:30 p.m. Saturday, April 12 in Elizabeth City, North Carolina — about a 50-mile drive south from Norfolk, the Chesapeake Police Department said in a news release.

After officers used spike strips, the woman kept traveling onto I-64 before crashing into three Virginia State Police vehicles and stopping, police said.

According to Virginia State Police, one trooper was injured after a vehicle airbag deployed. They were taken to a hospital.

The driver had a “small female infant” in a car seat who was taken to a hospital for evaluation, per state police.

The 53-year-old driver — whom troopers said they believe was under the influence — was arrested on 14 charges, including assault on law enforcement, disregarding police command to stop and reckless care for child, according to police records.

Police did not specify what initiated the chase.
