Ding-dong-ditching juvenile gets shot, then he gets charged, Kentucky cops say
A boy accused of ding-dong ditching in a Kentucky apartment complex got shot in the arm by a resident and was charged with criminal mischief after kicking a door, news outlets reported.
Louisville police responded to a call about a shooting at 9:30 a.m. on March 29, then found out a child had been taken to a hospital with a gunshot wound, according to WLKY.
The bullet struck him in the arm, WDRB reported. Four days later, police arrested the boy on a criminal mischief charge.
An arrest citation stated the boy told police he was “hanging out and ding-dong ditching” in the apartment complex, according to WHAS.
Residents of the apartment told police they heard knocking at their door, followed by kicking, the outlet reported.
Police told WLKY the boy, who doesn’t live in the complex, damaged the door jamb by kicking it. He’s been charged with second-degree criminal mischief.
The Commonwealth’s Attorney Office ruled that the shooting was self-defense, according to WDRB.
