Teacher shows up unannounced at student’s home demanding homework in Ohio, officials say
An Ohio teacher is being disciplined after school officials said they showed up at a student’s home unannounced demanding homework.
The Hull Prairie Intermediate School teacher was placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of an investigation, according to a March 21 news release from Perrysburg Schools.
The disciplinary action comes after the family of a student reported that a teacher showed up at their home unannounced after a school day.
The teacher went there to retrieve missing homework, school officials said. At the home, a parent arrived and confronted the teacher on the porch.
A police report stated that the parent emailed the school, also saying it was told the teacher “does this for students sometimes” and asked the student if they could follow the school bus to their house, WDTN reported.
When the parent confronted the teacher, the teacher said they went to the student’s home to see if the homework was done because if all the students finished it they “would earn a pizza party,” the outlet reported.
“While we are limited in what we can share due to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and the ongoing police investigation, please be assured that we take any concerns regarding student safety with the utmost seriousness. The well-being of our students remains our highest priority, and we are fully cooperating with law enforcement authorities,” school officials said in the release.
Perrysburg is about a 10-mile drive southwest of Toledo.
