An Oregon man is accused of presenting “himself as a long-lost ‘uncle’ to a family” in Alaska and then sexually abusing one of the daughters, prosecutors said.

Steven Fox, 59, was indicted by a grand jury in Alaska in connection with transporting a minor with the intent to have the child engage in criminal sexual activity, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Alaska said in a March 21 news release.

He was arrested in Portland, Oregon, after the indictment, prosecutors said.

Defense attorney information wasn’t listed in court records the morning of March 24.

Fox relocated to Anchorage in 2019 from Pendleton, Oregon, and “at some point that year” connected with the family and started caring for the two minor daughters, prosecutors said.

The next year, he took the children to Oregon, and he soon began sexually abusing one of the daughters, according to prosecutors.

The girl was 9 years old, prosecutors said.

Fox faces 10 years to life in prison if he’s convicted, prosecutors said.

The FBI is asking anyone with information about Fox’s alleged actions to call the Anchorage field office at 907-276-4441 or leave an anonymous tip at tips.fbi.gov.

Pendleton is about a 210-mile drive east from Portland.
