An Ohio woman was convicted of murder after officials said she abused her 2-year-old son, leading to his death.

Amanda Jo Bunner, 35, was found guilty of murder March 10 in connection with the 2016 death of her son Jaxon, Summit County Prosecutor Elliot Kolkovich said in a news release.

Contact information for her attorney was not immediately available.

In April 2016, Jaxon was taken to an Akron hospital for a brain injury, WJW reported. However, prosecutors said Bunner waited 15 minutes before she called 911, according to the outlet.

Jaxon died from a “massive subdural hematoma,” which is when blood pools between the skull and the brain, WKYC reported.

At the hospital, the toddler was found to be malnourished and had “excessive bruises on his body,” Kolkovich said. Staff and a medical examiner determined his death was a result of child abuse, prosecutors said.

“His smile, his giggle, and his piercing eyes will be cherished for all the happiness he brought to his family and to this earth. Thank you for loving us, Jaxon,” his obituary said.

Bunner’s sentencing is set for March 27.

“The death of Jaxon Bunner was a preventable tragedy, and my sympathies go out to his family. There is no tolerance for child abuse in Akron, and it breaks my heart every time a case like this comes to our office,” Kolkovich said in a statement to WKYC.
