Failed carjacking ended with murder suspect run over, GA cops say. He learns his fate
A man accused of botching multiple getaway attempts after killing his girlfriend is going to spend the rest of his life in prison, according to investigators in Georgia.
Fortune Jaquan Spencer of Lilesville, North Carolina, was sentenced to life without parole, plus 145 years, the Sandy Springs Police Department said in a Feb. 25 news release.
The victim, 24-year-old Sherika Monique Little, was shot June 6, 2020, as she sat in her car outside a hotel in Sandy Springs, police said. Sandy Springs is about a 15-mile drive north from Atlanta.
Spencer’s 22 charges included crimes committed during a chaotic attempt to elude capture, officials say.
Among the victims in that spree was an Atlanta Police intelligence officer, who was shot when Spencer tried and failed to carjack a vehicle, police said.
“Spencer then located an elderly female and carjacked her ... but soon wrecked into several vehicles inside the Parc at Perimeter Apartments,” police said.
“Spencer then ran into the roadway and attempted to stop and carjack three additional victims. However, he was struck by a passing motorist, and soon thereafter, taken into custody.”
He was found guilty of all 22 charges, including murder, motor vehicle hijacking and aggravated assault, officials said.
The “elderly female” was not harmed during the carjacking. The Atlanta officer shot by Spencer suffered non-life threatening injuries, officials said.
