A Nebraska woman was convicted in federal court after officials say she killed a man.

Michelle Lee Marr, 49, was convicted of second-degree murder and tampering with documents or evidence, according to a Feb. 19 news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Nebraska.

McClatchy News reached out to Marr’s attorney for comment but did not immediately hear back.

On March 12, 2022, Marr called 911 and said a man would not wake up, prosecutors said.

The man was taken to a hospital by helicopter and was treated for brain trauma and swelling, according to prosecutors.

Nurses then noticed that the man had “significant amounts of makeup” on his face. After removing the makeup, they found bruises underneath, prosecutors said. He also had bruises on his body.

The next day, the man died, prosecutors said.

An autopsy showed his cause of death was blunt force trauma and his death was ruled a homicide. Tests showed that the man’s injuries were “consistent with inflicted trauma as opposed to trauma which might result from some type of fall,” prosecutors said.

Marr told investigators on March 11, 2022, she was “passed out” from 5 p.m. until finding the man unresponsive the next day, according to prosecutors. However, evidence from her phone and social media contradicted that.

Witnesses testified that they saw Marr physically assault the man on previous occasions.

Marr is set to be sentenced on June 5.
