‘Sweet’ dog abandoned outside grocery store with heartbreaking note. ‘Take me home’
A Michigan animal shelter shared a message for whoever abandoned their dog in a grocery store parking lot.
“Rukey is safe and deeply loved by our staff,” the Feb. 14 Facebook post from the Kent County Animal Shelter in Grand Rapids read. “We can only imagine how difficult this choice was for you, and we sincerely hope you find brighter days ahead.”
On Feb. 13, a group of people found the “sweet dog” abandoned in a Meijer parking lot with a note attached to her collar that said “My name is Rukey. Please help me, take me home,” according to the shelter.
“Her gentle personality has already won our hearts, and we will ensure she is cared for and finds a wonderful, loving family,” rescuers said.
The shelter urged kindness and offered resources for pet owners who may be struggling.
“Please be kind to yourself and others. We never know the battles someone is silently facing,” the shelter said.
“If you need help, please ask,” the shelter said. “We will do everything we can to provide resources to support and preserve the human-animal bond.”
“Thank you for highlighting that for every surrender there could be a heartbreaking story on the other end,” one person commented on the post.
Kent County Animal Shelter said it will continue to post updates about Rukey.
