Hundreds of pieces of stolen mail found after police spot stolen vehicle, TN cops say

The discovery of a stolen car in a parking lot in Tennessee led police to uncover a wide-ranging mail theft scheme, authorities said.

A duo from California was arrested, according to a Feb. 9 news release from the Lebanon Police Department.

An officer conducting routine patrol on Friday, Feb. 7, came across a Range Rover in the parking lot of a hotel after it had been reported stolen in Missouri, investigators said.

Police said the two people accused of possessing the stolen vehicle were inside the hotel, leading investigators to find “hundreds of pieces of mail that had been stolen locally and from around the country.”

Officers said they also recovered materials to make fake IDs and credit cards.

A 29-year-old man was arrested alongside a 34-year-old woman who also had an arrest warrant out of California, police said. A spokesperson for the Lebanon Police Department told McClatchy News the agency couldn’t share many specifics on the case while the investigation is ongoing involving federal authorities.

Lebanon is about a 30-mile drive east from Nashville.
