‘Cherished’ educator — a mom of 2 — killed by her husband inside home, Texas cops say
A mother of two who worked at a junior high school was shot and killed by her husband inside their home, according to Texas officials and news reports.
The fatal shooting happened just after noon on Sunday, Feb. 9, deputies with the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office told KPRC. The victim’s husband, the outlet reported, was taken into custody “a short time” after officers arrived.
Iona Pollard, a “cherished” instructional coach at George Junior High School, was identified as the victim in the slaying, according to a statement from the Lamar Consolidated Independent School District obtained by KHOU.
The district said Pollard was a mother of two.
“The loss of their mother and the circumstances of this tragedy are incredibly heartbreaking,” the district said in the statement also obtained by KTRK. “We extend our deepest condolences to the Pollard children, their families, friends, and all who knew Iona, particularly her colleagues and students at George Junior High.”
David Pollard, the educator’s 47-year-old husband, was arrested and charged with murder, according to the Houston Chronicle. He is being held on a $300,000 bond.
A motive for the killing is unclear.
Like his wife, David Pollard worked for the school district. He was hired in 2020 as its school safety coordinator.
Fort Bend County is about a 35-mile drive southwest from Houston.
