85-year-old school bus driver killed by bus in ‘tragic accident,’ NJ officials say
An 85-year-old school bus driver died after he was hit by another bus in a “tragic accident” at a high school, New Jersey officials said.
Jack Hohwald was at Maple Shade High School on Jan. 28 when he was hit by a bus, the Maple Shade Police Department wrote in a news release posted to Facebook.
He was outside his bus when he was struck, police said.
The 77-year-old driver of the bus that hit him stayed on scene, police said.
“At this time, no charges have been filed related to the crash,” according to police.
In a statement posted to Facebook, Maple Shade Mayor Heather Talarico and the township council said the South Jersey community “is grieving the heartbreaking loss of a dedicated member of our school district family.”
They added that, “our deepest condolences go out to the family, friends, and colleagues affected by this tragic accident.”
The investigation is ongoing, police said.
Maple Shade is about a 10-mile drive east from Philadelphia.
