Costco members will see major change in food court soon, CEO says. What to know
Coca-Cola products fizzled from Costco food court fountains over a decade ago.
Now, to the delight of some soft drink lovers, they’re returning as the membership club bids adieu to rival Pepsi, multiple news outlets reported.
“We will be converting our food court fountain business back over to Coca-Cola,” Costco CEO Ron Vachris said Jan. 23 at the company’s yearly shareholders meeting, according to CNN.
The switch comes 12 years after Costco awarded Pepsi the fountain drink contract in 2013, a move executives said was necessary to maintain the price of its $1.50 hot dog combo, the news outlet reported. The deal includes the soda machines, syrups, cups and straws, among other items.
McClatchy News reached out to Costco for comment Jan. 27 and was awaiting a response.
The change will roll out at warehouses this summer, giving members their pick of favorites like Diet Coke and Sprite, Fox Business reported, citing an Instagram post by Costco Insider.
The switch is a welcome change for many as fans expressed their excitement over pairing a $1.50 hot dog with their favorite Coke products.
In recent years, Costco has hiked the price of some food court items including its popular chicken bake. The price of a 20-ounce soft drink also jumped 10 cents and now costs 69 cents, McClatchy News previously reported.
There’s one item Costco executives said members won’t have to worry about.
“The $1.50 hot dog price is safe,” Gary Millerchip, chief financial officer for Costco, said in 2024, USA Today reported.
