An Oklahoma woman was arrested after police say she tried to set a man’s oxygen tank on fire at a senior living facility.

Marketta Sayone Bates, 33, was charged with aggravated assault and attempted arson, according to a police report.

Attorney information for Bates was not available.

On Jan. 20, Oklahoma City police were called to a senior center for reports of an assault.

Officers arrived to a “hectic” scene with people in a common room screaming, the report said. One person was yelling, pointing at Bates and saying “that was her.”

Police spoke with a man who said he was in the common area selling clothes when Bates came in yelling at residents, upset because she believed someone stole her mom’s phone, police said.

The man told Bates to calm down, which made her upset, the report said. Bates took out a lighter and tried to set the man’s oxygen tank on firewhile it was still connected to his breathing tubes that he was actively using, according to police.

The man quickly took the breathing tubes out of his nose and other residents intervened and tried to push Bates away, the report said. Bates then slammed the oxygen tank on the ground, according to police.

The man told police Bates tried to light a trash can on fire then grabbed a knife and made a “slashing motion” toward him.

Security cameras captured the incident on video and police found a knife and lighter in Bates’ bag, the report said.
