Inseparable mother, young daughter killed when SUV crashes into Virginia pond, family says
A mother and her 4-year-old daughter were killed in Virginia when their vehicle turned over into a pond, police said.
Virginia State Police said they responded to the wreck at about 1:30 p.m. Jan. 6 in King William County, about a 30-mile drive northeast from Richmond.
Kayeley Williams, 33, and her daughter, Maddie, were pronounced dead at the scene after the 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe they were in ran off the road and crashed into a pond, police told McClatchy News in an email and an online memorial said.
Williams and her daughter were both wearing their seat belts, police said.
Williams’ sister-in-law, Leah, told WTVR the two were inseparable.
“Losing her feels like we’ve lost our own two feet,” she told the outlet. “Whenever something crazy happened, she was the kind of person that would be your first phone call.”
Kelsey Whitelock, a friend of Williams, remembered her and her daughter as “full of life” in the online memorial.
“The world is a bit dimmer without both of you, but the light you left in others will stay lit forever,” Whitelock said.
The crash is being investigated, police said.
