A Michigan probation officer is facing six felony charges after authorities said he was found with child sexual abuse material.

Alexander Stachura, 38, of Williamston was charged with three counts of possession of child sexually abusive material and three counts of using a computer to commit a crime, according to a Dec. 13 news release from the Michigan State Police.

He was arraigned Dec. 11 and his bond was set at $20,000, according to court records. Attorney information for Stachura was not available.

Authorities began investigating Stachura, a former probationary officer with the Meridian Township Police Department, in October after receiving a tip from “a member of the public,” police said.

Citing a probable cause statement, WLNS reported Stachura’s wife found the images on a thumb drive and reported it to authorities.

“A search of Stachura’s residence resulted in digital evidence being seized,” Michigan State Police said.

Stachura was immediately placed on administrative leave, and following formal charges filed by the Ingham County Prosecuting Attorney, he was fired Dec. 10, according to a news release from Meridian Township Chief of Police Rick Grillo.

Authorities said he faces a maximum of four years in prison for each count of possession of child sexually abusive material.

Meridian Township is about about a 10-mile drive east from Lansing.
