Man stabs fellow passenger on Greyhound bus and is shot dead, Georgia cops say
A Greyhound passenger was shot and killed after he was accused of stabbing another rider on a bus in Atlanta, Georgia state investigators said.
The man led officers on a brief chase along Interstate 75 early Wednesday, Dec. 5, before police said he charged at them with a knife, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
The bus was traveling south on the highway at about 1 a.m., when the unnamed man stabbed a fellow passenger, “causing non-life-threatening injuries,” authorities said in a news release.
The man exited and began acting “erratically” when the bus pulled over to the shoulder.
As Atlanta officers arrived, the man tried to run away and ignored their commands to stop, the GBI said. Officers tried to Tase him, but it didn’t work.
At one point, authorities said the man jumped over a highway divider and continued to run from police.
“Suddenly, he rapidly approached the officers with a knife in his hand,” authorities said. “Officers shot at the man, hitting him.”
The man was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.
Authorities haven’t released his identity, pending notification of next of kin.
