Police in Texas are investigating after they say a man killed his wife at a motel.

And relatives of the victim are telling local media this is far from the couple’s first violent incident.

Myron Lynn Strambler, 36, is charged with murder, according to officials.

On Nov. 27, Houston police were called to a motel at 6:10 p.m. for a report of an assault in progress, according to a news release from the police department.

When officers arrived, they found Strambler sitting outside. He told them his wife, 34-year-old Alicia Strambler, was inside the motel room and “needed medical assistance,” officials said.

When officers went inside, they found Alicia Strambler unresponsive with multiple injuries consistent with blunt force trauma.

She was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

McClatchy News has reached out to an attorney for Strambler and is awaiting response.

Family members told media outlets the couple had a history of domestic violence and that Alicia Strambler was abused.

“She was so afraid of him that she was going to do whatever he wanted,” her father, Andy Rabago, told KHOU.

Alicia Strambler’s mother told KRIV that her daughter stayed because she was scared and manipulated.

“When your daughter calls you up from a stranger’s phone, that she’s hiding in bushes with no shoes on her feet, to get away from him,” Michele Hedt told the news outlet. “Or your daughter calls you from a hospital, and you hear a police officer, asking her what object he used to do this to you, and she said his fist.”

Alicia Strambler was a mother of three, according to a GoFundMe page.

“Her compassion, unwavering belief in the goodness of people, and her radiant smile lifted everyone around her. Even in her hardest moments, she remained positive and strong—qualities that defined the incredible person she was. To us, she was not just strong; she was the strongest,” the page said.
