7-year-old playing outside vanishes, then body found in icy river, Wisconsin cops say
A 7-year-old Wisconsin boy was found dead in an icy river after police say he went missing while playing outside.
On Nov. 30, Two Rivers police were called for reports of a missing child, according to a Facebook post by the police department.
Jacob Baer, a 7-year-old boy with autism, was playing outside when his parent ‘lost sight of him,’ according to police.
A search immediately began and officials looked for Jacob throughout the night, police said.
Officials said community members wished to help in the search, but they urged people to stay clear of West Twin River because “the ice on the river is very thin and dangerous.”
Officials continued to search and several of Jacob’s items were found in the river overnight, according to police.
Then, on the morning of Dec. 1, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources found a body in the river, under 5 to 6 feet of water, police said. It was Jacob.
“This tragic event is a reminder of how dangerous the ice can be on our waterways, especially this time of year when it is very thin. Please stay off the ice and keep your children safe by monitoring them closely when around any waterway,” police said.
Two Rivers is a roughly 40-mile drive southeast from Green Bay.
