Dad accused of killing his young daughter. She wasn’t the intended target, NC cops say
A father is accused of killing his young daughter, but she wasn’t the intended target, North Carolina police told news outlets.
The Maxton Police Department said it believes 31-year-old Dedric Page was trying to shoot at a woman when at least one bullet struck his daughter Sunday, Nov. 10. The girl, Quazariya Williams, died at a hospital, WPDE reported.
Quazariya is remembered as a “sweet” 7-year-old girl who participated in cheerleading and “had a lot going on in her life,” Lt. Patrick Hunt told WBTW.
After the shooting, Page was arrested and charged with first-degree murder. TV stations didn’t list attorney information for him.
Officers responded at about 2 p.m. to the scene in Maxton, a roughly 100-mile drive southwest from Raleigh. First responders found the girl shot before she was flown to a hospital, police told TV stations.
Page was in a dispute when he fired shots at a car that had five people inside, officers told The Robesonian newspaper and other news outlets. Police Chief Schirra Johnson said the child’s mom was the intended target, WMBF reported.
In addition to murder, Page is charged with attempted first-degree murder and gun-related crimes. He was taken to the Robeson County jail and had a court date scheduled for Nov. 12, according to online records and news outlets.
The Maxton Police Department didn’t immediately share additional information with McClatchy News on Nov. 12.
