A Wisconsin man was indicted after officials said he nearly killed his girlfriend until someone interrupted the attack with a welfare check.

Nee Gee J. Cloud, 31, is charged with assault with intent to murder, burglary and domestic violence assault, according to an Oct. 23 news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Wisconsin.

McClatchy News reached out to Cloud’s attorney for comment but did not immediately hear back.

On Sept. 20, the owner of the Neopit home where Cloud and the woman had been staying was at work when their home security system began alerting them, according to an indictment. The homeowner called someone who lived nearby and asked them to check on the home.

The homeowner then looked at the camera and saw Cloud “violently assaulting” his girlfriend, the indictment said.

The nearby resident went to the home and knocked, then called police. When officers arrived, they found Cloud outside trying to run and tased him, then arrested him, prosecutors said. Then they found the woman inside lying in a pool of blood.

What the cameras caught

The home had two cameras running at the time of the assault. One was outside, and one was sitting on a kitchen cabinet, court records said.

At 3:07 p.m., Cloud is seen kicking the door in and searching inside for the woman, who was hiding from him in a closet, according to the indictment.

At 3:14 p.m., the video shows him exit the bedroom and walk to the kitchen sink with blood on his hands, court records said. The woman can be seen lying motionless, face down in the bedroom. Cloud washes his hands and face, returns to the room and stomps on the woman’s face and body, according to the indictment.

At 3:18 p.m., he is seen going back into the kitchen, grabbing something to drink then going back to the bedroom. The woman can still be seen lying motionless on the floor, the court records said.

At 3:21 p.m., he goes back into the kitchen, washes his hands and shoes off then goes back into the room and continues to assault the unconscious woman, the video shows, according to court records.

Cloud proceeds to wash off blood two more times, returning to assault the woman in between, the court records said.

Then, at 3:25 p.m., someone is heard yelling outside for Cloud to come to the door. Cloud opens the door to find several people outside, one of whom asks Cloud if the woman is alive, to which Cloud says she is, the indictment said. Several minutes later, Cloud is seen running to the door as police approach.

Cloud was taken to Menominee Tribal Jail.

The woman was hospitalized for nearly a month, prosecutors said.

Neopit is about a 60-mile drive northwest of Green Bay.
