New mom stabbed to death while working at 7-Eleven, OK cops say. ‘It’s heart-wrenching’
An 18-year-old woman was stabbed to death while working at a convenience store in Oklahoma City, police said.
Police were called to a 7-Eleven at about 2:45 a.m. Oct. 18, according to a news release from the Oklahoma City Police Department.
Jaedynn Anthony was working at the store when a man came in, according to police.
Police released surveillance video from inside the store, which shows the man enter the store and go to the counter.
“They were the only two inside the store at the time, had approached the counter inside and appeared to pay for some items there at the counter,” Sgt. Dillon Quirk told KFOR.
When Anthony opened the cash register, the suspect showed a knife and demanded money, police told KOKH. Anthony complied with the man and gave him the money, but the man stabbed her to death, the outlet reported, according to police.
“Nobody, male or female, should have to work by themselves. It doesn’t matter. It doesn’t matter what gender they are, they shouldn’t have to work by themselves,” Bobbie Johnston, who would’ve soon been Anthony’s mother-in-law, told KOCO.
Anthony was found in “medical distress” before she died, police said.
Police said it’s unclear why the man stabbed Anthony.
“We don’t know why the the victim in this case complied, did everything she was supposed to do and complied with with demands from the suspect and he killed her anyway,” Quirk told KFOR.
Anthony was a mom to a 1-year-old boy, according to a GoFundMe page.
“This is Brayden, and he lost his mother to a cruel, cruel man. It’s heart-wrenching, and it’s not fair,” Anthony’s cousin Somer Goodgion told KOKH.
A 23-year-old man has been arrested in connection to Anthony’s death, KOCO reported. His name has not been released.
“Our hearts are with our employee’s family during this difficult time. 7-Eleven has been fully cooperating with law enforcement during its investigation. The safety of customers and store associates is our top priority,” a statement from 7-Eleven to KOHO said.
