Lyft driver speeds off with passenger’s 2-year-old during argument, Ohio cops say
An Ohio Lyft driver was arrested after police told media outlets he drove off with a passenger’s 2-year-old child in his car.
Steven Moore, 52, is charged with kidnapping and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to WOIO.
Attorney information was not available for Moore.
Akron police were called on Friday, Oct. 18 about an altercation, WJW reported.
A 25-year-old woman told police she argued with Moore, who was her Lyft driver, about a ride and that she exited the car after Moore stopped, the Akron Beacon Journal reported. When she got out of the car, Moore is accused of speeding off with her 2-year-old daughter still in the car.
After the woman called police, they were notified that Moore went to a fire station with the child and she was found there unharmed, according to WJW.
Moore was arrested at the fire station, WOIO reported.
“Safety is fundamental to Lyft, and the incident described is deeply troubling. We have deactivated the driver from the Lyft platform and stand ready to assist law enforcement with any investigation,” a Lyft spokesperson told McClatchy News in an email.
Akron is about a 40-mile drive south of Cleveland.
