A 77-year-old woman was shot and killed by officers when she pointed her pistol at them, Oklahoma police said.

Annette Prince was in the passenger seat of a vehicle on Oct. 10 with another woman driving when she pulled out a gun and shot the woman twice, Oklahoma City police said. The reason for the shooting is unknown.

The driver got out of the car and attempted to flee, police said, and Prince moved to the driver’s seat.

She turned the car and ran over the woman she had just shot, police said in an Oct. 14 news release. Prince tried to drive off, but police say she crashed and disabled the car.

When officers arrived, Prince still had the pistol in her hand, police said. She did not comply with instructions to put the weapon down and instead fired several shots at the ground, according to the release.

Then, Prince pointed the gun at the officers, according to the release. Police shot and killed her, officials said.

The driver who was shot and run over was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, officers said. Her condition is unknown.

The seven officers who responded to the scene were placed on administrative leave as the department investigates the shooting, according to the release.
