‘Loving, happy’ shelter pup waited ‘6 long years’ for a new family. See her happy ending
A “loving, happy” dog spent six long years in an Ohio shelter waiting for a new family after her previous owner surrendered her.
Then, finally, the right people came along and decided to bring her home, the Ohio SPCA & Humane Society said in an Oct. 2 post on Facebook.
“We are jumping for joy this evening with very exciting news!” the shelter said in the post. “After 6 long years waiting for someone to give her a chance, Kona has found the perfect family for her. We are so excited for Kona’s fresh start, and can’t wait to hear updates!”
Photos show a smiling couple posing with the white-and-brindle dog. One of them holds a sign that reads: “It was LOVE at first sight!”
Another photo shows Kona smiling from the backseat of the car as they take her to her new home.
“The look of hope for the future,” someone commented under the photo.
Several people commented they had been following Kona’s journey and were excited for the sweet pup’s new “leash on life.” Others thanked the couple for adopting her and hoped they would start a page for her on social media so they could keep up with her and her new family.
Someone who said she is Kona’s new grandma posted an update on Kona’s “first day with her furever family.” She said her daughter doesn’t have Facebook, but wanted to share highlights with the pup’s fans.
“Kona was a little shy to walk around the house her first night. She kept coming back to mom and dad for reassurance. So sweet,” Stacey Crosby said. “Kona is loving the new trails and ponds to explore and is curious about the ducks!”
Photos show Kona smiling for the camera in the passenger seat of a car and snuggling into a bed, while a video shows Kona walking in excited zigzags on a leash.
“Big wags on all the new smells and adventures,” Crosby said. “She thinks the bed is so comfy and a car ride for a pup cup is the best!”
Crosby said the couple planned to get a GPS collar for Kona’s safety while she acclimates to her new environment and “gains confidence with her new family.”
“It was truly love at first sight,” Crosby said. “Thank you to everyone for their expressions of love and gratitude. They feel very blessed to have found such a sweet girl. She is loved so much already.”
