A body was found floating in a small pond in Oklahoma City, spurring an investigation by police, Oklahoma officials say.

A man was fishing in the pond near Lake Overholser on Thursday, Oct. 3, when he discovered the body and called police, KOTV reported.

The call came in at 7:54 a.m., police told McClatchy News. Authorities quickly responded to the scene on the city’s west side and a dive team retrieved the remains from the water.

The water was just two feet deep where the body was found, firefighters told KOCO, adding that the pond was “extremely muddy.” Authorities said the body appeared to have been in the water for a relatively long period of time.

Police have not announced a cause of death or identity of the remains, but say the medical examiner’s office is working to determine both.

The area where the body was found is about a 14-mile drive west from downtown Oklahoma City.
