Days of arguing end with man calling police to say he stabbed roommate, CA cops say
A man fatally stabbed his roommate after the pair had been arguing for days, California police say.
Officers responded to an Irvine home after a resident, Zackery Dean Hinkle, 22, called police to say he had stabbed his roommate, Irvine police said in a Tuesday, Sept. 17, Facebook post.
Hinkle met officers outside the home and told them he was in a “physical altercation” with his roommate when the stabbing happened, police said.
He was detained as other officers entered the home, where they found the roommate, identified as Terry Rahmatulla, 53, “on the ground near the front door,” according to police.
Officers tried to save Rahmatulla, but he died from his injuries, police said.
Preliminary investigation shows the pair “had been arguing over the last few days,” police said.
“Today, it came to a head,” Sgt. Karie Davies told The Orange County Register.
The pair’s confrontation became physical, according to police.
“At some point, Hinkle stabbed Rahmatulla in the upper body,” police said.
No other residents at the home were hurt, police said.
Hinkle’s grandmother and aunt, Rahmatulla’s friend since high school, also live at the home, Davies told The Orange County Register.
Hinkle was arrested on a murder charge and booked into jail, according to police.
